Ever since Whitney Houston died…

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts along the lines of:

“A Celebrity dies, the whole world cries. A Soldier dies, no one pays attention.”

I am Really, REALLY sick and tired of these. We get it, Soldiers of the U.S die everyday, and I admit, we don’t acknowledge them enough. But does that mean we have to completely ignore the death of an icon? Yes, Whitney (to some) was known for her drug abuse. But, what about BEFORE that drug abuse? She created greatest hits, was an inspiration to millions, and was an iconic legend. So, you’re saying, just because we don’t acknowledge the death of U.S Soldiers, we have to ignore every celebrity death? That’s all bullshit. People always say “We don’t focus on the U.S Soldiers and the sacrifice they made for our country enough..”

Ok..

So, what about when 911 hits? Do we not acknowledge them? What about Veterans day? Do we know acknowledge them then? The only time we acknowledge celebrities is the time of the their death, about a couple weeks later, their birthday, and then every year later on the day they died. That’s only about 4 years. I bet, 5 years from now, hardly anyone is going to be like “5 years ago, Whitney Houston died.” Unlike 20 years from now, EVERY Sept. 11th we will remember the Fire Fighters who died, EVERY Veterans Day, we will acknowledge the soldiers who died for our country. How I see it, we will continue to celebrate the honor of our soldiers, every year for forever, unlike celebrities, where we acknowledge them for about a couple weeks and then move on. That’s how media works.

So calm down. Let the media work how it does. It won’t last long. The Legacy of the U.S Soldiers will live in infamy. We will acknowledge the death of our celebrities for about a couple months, tops, before we move on. But we will ALWAYS remember the Sacrifice our soldiers made for our Freedom.
